As a member of your health care team I specialize in the knowledge of, and primary focus on, breastfeeding. Providing skilled assistance with a focus on preventive health care. I encourage self-care, empowering parents to make their own decisions, prenatally and postnatally. I use a problem solving approach to provide appropriate information, recommendations and referrals.
TOTS(Tethered oral tissues) support: If you are deciding to have a lip/toungue tie release done I can provide lactation support. This support includes 1 pre-procedure visit to discuss what to expect and I will show you some movements and exercises you can do to help prepare your baby. 1 post-procedure visit as soon as possible after procedure (1-2 days) to check in/visit with how you and baby are doing and answer any questions. 1 week visit to provide breastfeeding support and answer any questions. I will be available by email, text or phone call pre/post procedure and can even accompany you if having it done locally.

In this session you will learn the basics about breastfeeding and the newborn. I will answer questions you may have and give you information to help get breastfeeding off to the best start. We will discuss what common problems may arise and how to best approach them. We will also cover the importance of the postpartum period for the MotherBaby, including nutrition, rest and support.

Mileage is charged if 30km or more from LLoydminster.
Early postpartum breastfeeding consult
The first 2 weeks can be challenging as you begin to settle in as a new family. The sooner you can get support the better you will feel moving forward. I come to your home to help with any questions or concerns you may have. I am also available to come after the birth to help get early breastfeeding started. The ‘art’ of breastfeeding can take time to be comfortable with. The sooner breastfeeding can be well established the more you will enjoy your postpartum experience with your new baby. The MotherBaby bond is precious and a little support can go a long way. Some areas that new moms may need help with are latching, positioning, hand expressing, healing from birth and bonding. I can also help with assessing things that may effect the baby's sucking and breathing abilities, such as lip/toungue tie. I can help with nutrition support for the breastfeeding mother. Follow ups may be necessary and can be decided at the initial consult.
